# Troubleshooting & FAQ

Common problems, known limitations and questions for ace\_liveradio.

## Reading the startup summary

About a second after the resource starts, it prints a summary to the server console: the detected framework, inventory, notification, text UI and target, enabled features, loaded stations, and any warnings. Check this first — most setup problems are named there directly, including a misspelled config option or a secret accidentally left in `config.lua`.

## Troubleshooting

<details>

<summary>Resource won't start / dependency errors</summary>

`ace_liveradio` requires **`pma-voice`** and **`xsound`**. Make sure both are installed and started **before** it in `server.cfg`. See [Installation](/docs/roleplay/live-radio/installation.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>No voice, or voice radio spams errors</summary>

If [vMenu](https://github.com/vespura/vMenu) is running, its **Voice Chat** menu options switch Mumble voice channels and break pma-voice — the F8 console spams `MUMBLE_ADD_VOICE_CHANNEL_LISTEN ... channel that didn't exist`, and radio voice can fail. Deny them in vMenu's `permissions.cfg`:

```
add_ace builtin.everyone "vMenu.VoiceChat.Menu" deny
```

The startup summary warns when vMenu is detected running.

</details>

<details>

<summary>A listener can talk back on a "one-way" station</summary>

With `Config.OneWayBroadcast.Enabled = true`, blocking a listener's own transmission is enforced **client-side**. A modified client could still reach the host and guests, though other listeners still won't hear it. This is a known limitation, not a bug to report.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Signal fade doesn't kick in near the edge of a station's range</summary>

Signal fade measures the listener's distance to the host on **their own game**, so it only works while the host is within the listener's streaming range (about 400 m). Beyond that, playback can simply cut out with no fade.

</details>

<details>

<summary>A player's job radio channel stops working after tuning a station</summary>

pma-voice allows **one radio channel per player**. Tuning in to a Live Voice or Podcast station replaces any job radio channel the player was on. This is expected — it isn't a conflict to fix.

</details>

<details>

<summary>YouTube playlist import says it isn't set up</summary>

Set `ServerConfig.YouTubeApiKey` in `server_config.lua` (or the `ace_liveradio_youtube_api_key` convar) to a **YouTube Data API v3** key from [Google Cloud Console](https://console.cloud.google.com). See [Configuration → YouTube playlist import](/docs/roleplay/live-radio/configuration.md#youtube-playlist-import).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Track titles/thumbnails aren't loading</summary>

Check that `Config.FetchTrackTitles = true` (in `config_advanced.lua`). The lookup runs on the **server**, so it needs outbound access to YouTube's oEmbed endpoint (or noembed.com for other sites).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Items don't appear, or "no such export"</summary>

* Check that `Config.GenerateItemFiles = true` and look in the `items/` folder for the file matching your inventory.
* Copy the entry into your inventory's item list and **restart the inventory**, not just `ace_liveradio`.
* With ox\_inventory or QBCore, check the startup summary for a warning about missing items.

See [Commands, Exports & Items](/docs/roleplay/live-radio/commands-and-exports.md#items).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Stations, ratings or bans reset after an update</summary>

They're saved to `stations.json`, `banned_hosts.json`, `ratings.json` and `community.json` **inside the resource folder**. Replacing the whole folder on update without keeping those files resets them. Back them up before updating, or copy them back in afterward.

If one of these files becomes unreadable (for example a corrupted save), the resource copies it aside as `*.json.broken` on start instead of losing it — check for that file and compare it to the fresh one that replaces it.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Changed a file but nothing changed in-game</summary>

Run `refresh` then `ensure ace_liveradio`. A plain `restart` doesn't pick up new files. If part of the resource still won't load, check the server console / client F8 console for a line naming which file failed and which feature it disabled.

</details>

## Known limitations

* vMenu's Voice Chat menu conflicts with pma-voice. See the troubleshooting entry above.
* One-way broadcast enforcement is client-side (a modified client could still transmit to the host/guests).
* Signal fade only works within streaming range (\~400 m) of the host.
* pma-voice allows one radio channel per player; tuning a Live Voice/Podcast station replaces a job radio channel.

## FAQ

<details>

<summary>Do I need ox_inventory?</summary>

No. Live Radio auto-detects ox\_inventory, qs-inventory, qb-inventory, or your framework's own inventory, and works standalone (commands instead of items) without any of them.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can players host without any framework?</summary>

Yes. With `Config.Framework = 'standalone'` (or auto-detected as such), hosting permissions fall back to `Config.EveryoneCanHost` and `Config.AuthorizedHosts` — job/gang-based permissions need QBCore, Qbox or ESX.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does the mini player block driving or gameplay?</summary>

No. The mini player is a read-only, always-available indicator that never takes NUI focus or blocks mouse/game input — only the station list, host console and admin panel take focus, and only while open.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can Live Voice and Podcast play through a boombox or DJ deck?</summary>

No. Both are greyed out in the boombox's and DJ deck's station lists — only music stations play through them.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Are the translations reliable?</summary>

Only English is written by hand. The other seven languages (German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish, Arabic) are machine-assisted — have a native speaker check them before relying on them for a live server.
